Chef Takes To The Islands. Look Out!

Talk about a change in lifestyle! After spending a busy Mediterranean season aboard the 149-foot motor yacht L'Elegance, chef Kenneth Johnson has decided to take a sabbatical in the Bahamas on a 27-foot Stiletto catamaran.

He's going from a crew of nine to a solo jaunt. From two huge Caterpillar diesels to a 15-hp outboard.
More to the point, from cooking three gourmet meals a day for as many as 16-plus people to pushing the limits of a portable propane burner mounted inside a 31-inch hull.
From a chef's coat to a T-shirt and shorts. From winning the Concourse des Chefs award in Monaco (think truffles and champagne reductions) to ...well, who's to say? Instead of a walk-in freezer, he's got a cooler that plugs into a cigarette lighter and holds little more than a six-pack and a pound of butter. His tiny larder is bursting with beans and rice, "and I'll eat as much fresh Wahoo as I can catch," he said.
Never fear. If he runs out of food, he can just about walk to land to get some. With boards and rudders up, the Stiletto has a draft of 9 inches. "All islands will be accessible," he said. And he can get anywhere he wants quickly. The Stiletto was built for speed, if not for comfort. "What a switch," said Johnson. "But a design speed of 22 knots under sail should be interesting." At last sighting, he was anchored in Maul Lake in Miami, aimed first toward Walker's Cay (good restaurants, he hears) and then south (to the Goombay smashes at Emma's Blue Bee Bar?) Next stops, the Abacos, Berries, Andros, the Exumas ... Are you going to stop there, or just keep heading to the Caribbean, Ken?
A hint: He's christened his boat Knot Done
So, if your in the Bahamas keep you eye out for Chef Ken and the Knot Done. And if you need a chef he just might be day working try giving him a shout on channel 16
